I just installed Excel X on an indigo iBook 366 running OS 10.2.4, 576 MB RAM. Excel ran fine for about 2 hours, on a spreadsheet that I had created in Excel 2001. Then I tried to save the changes, and got a dialogue box saying "Not Enough Memory". I clicked "Okay", got the same dialogue box, clicked "Okay"... did that three times, and Excel crashed.
Now, when I launch Excel, the same spreadsheet will open, but unsaved. When I try to save, I get the 'Not Enough Memory' dialogue again, 3 or 4 times, and Excel crashes.
No other programs are running, except Finder and system processes.
Can anyone tell me what's going on?
Thanks,
Ken

Please?
I could really use some help with this.
More info:
Every time that it crashes, it leaves an Excel file on my desktop with a name like "76936300" or "B30E4000", which Excel can't open- I get a dialogue box that gives the name of the file and "file format is not valid".
The " Not Enough Memory" dialogue box comes up either 3 or 4 times, and then the workbook opens; the 'close' widget has the dot in it that means it's not been saved, but trying to save causes Excel to crash immediately.
This is really a bummer- I've been working on this spreadsheet for weeks in Office 2001 and Classic. One day in Excel X and I'm hosed.
I know that I can call MS support, but I was hoping that I could get a fast answer here, rather than spend a couple of hours on hold.
It's a legit copy- found it on Dealmac from a place called MegaWatts Computers for $235 last week.
Thanks,
Ken

Sorry to hear about your problem. I ran into that situation once, but can't remember the details.

The only thing that comes to mind is to start Excel, then when it opens your spreadsheet, select all and copy. Then open a new document, paste, and save. If this works, get rid of all the other files that Excel created and also your original.

Thanks, Skipjack,
I've come to that conclusion. Well, a couple of hours of copying and pasting and formatting, and I guess that I'll be back in business.
Sure like to know what caused it. sheesh..
Ken
