i have a huge digital picture collection and i do not want to use iphoto.
what i want is a program that can launch and view a single jpg or other image file. and then when i scroll with my intellimouse's scroll wheel, cylcle thru all supported image types in that folder.
ACDsee does this on the pc. i am not looking for image editing functions although if they were built in, that would be nice too.
thanks
Lou

GraphicConverter can browse folders of images, or display a slideshow. Pretty good basic image editing capabilities too.

Try QuickImageCM. It adds a view image option to the contextual menu of the Finder. If you select a whole heap of images you can go through them all.

I don't want to have to select all the files at once i can do that with preview, i am trying to avoid that
Just tried Viewit, doesnt seem to be able to just show me the next image in a folder unless i load in all the images myself, this leaves me with no advantage over preview
If i select all the images and right click, when i go towards open with, i have a delay....... i want to avoid this.

There is but it doesn't get very good reviews at VT, for what they're worth.

You can try AcDsee for Mac. It is fast and when you open a folder or drag a folder to its icon (pressing option) it opens the slide show and you can browse all images at this folder. I think there is an option to automaticaly open slide show in full screen, if you like it.
Regards.

iView Media Pro is a powerful program. I never did like the proprietary catalog format but it is much faster than iPhoto.

ThumbsPlus is hands-down the best on the PC side - database and queue/batch driven, tons of features, faster by far than the rest, etc.
Unfortunately not for Mac yet... Mac image browsers all pale in comparison to it as far as I've seen. I hope they come out with a Mac version...

Graphic Converter was already mentioned. But it does have a good browse built in. Just go File>Browse.
If you already have Photoshop, newer versions include a decent file browser also.

Hi Bruck. Did you find anything that suited your needs? I ask because I am in the exact same situation. I run a small publishing company heavy on the art and I need a good image browsing program that, as you say, canjust pick up the prev/next image in the current folder. I just switched from PC to Mac and have yet to find anything as quick and versatile (for simple viewing) as XP's built in image viewer. Preview is sloooow. Please let me know. Cheers.
