I'm a new Mac user. When I insert my CD-RWs with Office files, some of them are listed as "non-allocatable" files (all my Excel files, and some Word files). BTW, I have Office X and Panther installed.

What are my otpions?

never heard of such a file - where are you seeing "non-allocatable"? In an error message? in an info panel? What happens when you open one of these files?

When I load my CD-RWs with files from my PC (Word or Excel). The "Non-Allocatable List" appears in the Finder window as an icon. When I click on it, a blank window opens.

One CD-RW contains my favorites (html file), which appears, and several Excel 2000 (I think that's the version) files, which do not appear, but in it's place is the "Non-Allocatable List" icon. I've experienced this in other places as well.

I'm also having trouble copying/pasting the "HP Deskjet OS X installer" file onto a CD so I can load into onto my wife's PB. It was a 4-hour download over dial-up (34.5mb)! Says the disc cannpt be modified (even though it recognizes it as a CD-RW).

Thanks!

I have never seen a "Non allocatable list" icon. Can you post a screenshot of this?

Is it an empty CD-RW? If not, did you try erasing the CD-RW with Disk Utility?
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

How do I get and post a screenshot?

A couples discs have Word/Excel files on them. One is blank. In Disk Utility, the blank disc's "write status" is "read only" even though it's a CD-RW.

BTW, the "non-allocatable list" shows up on my wife's new PB as well (same set-up).

Is this one solution?

Use blank CD-RWs and format them on the Mac (for both Mac and PC), save my PC files onto them (on the PC), then transfer to the Mac?

Are there any other solutions?

Thanks!
