I think the easiest way would be to open it with Quicktime Player, select the part you want to keep, cut, then open a new movie document and paste.

Yeah, QT will do it but you won't be able to export the final file as an MP3. I suppose you could export it to an AIFF file and then convert that to an MP3 but I don't know what that would do to the quality of the file.

You'll need Quicktime Pro to do it easily (with Quicktime.app, at least). I'm sure there are other apps that can do it for free.

Try Audcity for a pretty straight forward sound editor that will edit MP3s. Best of all, its free.

If you want a more powerful editor, try Spark LE. This one will cost you $49. They once had a free version of this program called Spark ME. This was a terrific audio editor, but it may be hard to find as the company seems to have pulled it from their site. The link for the LE version is:

If you plan to do much audio editing, it might be worth the money. I use the ME version all the time. If you just want a simple editor, go for the free Audacity. To encode MP3s you have to download a separate MP3 Encoder Library. Details are on their web site
