I just tried ordering a book through iPhoto. I'm not sure that anything actually went through.

First what i did was give iPhoto my Apple account and I followed all the steps. It took me back to the ordering window, but the "Buy Now" button was disabled.

I closed the window and tried again but it was still grayed out.

I then went to the Apple site to see if I had anything in the order status, but it didn't list anything. It did say that one-click ordering was turned off for this computer, even though iPhoto said it was on. I enabled it on the website and then relaunched iPhoto and clicked on the Order Book button. It said it was assembling... and then it went back to the main iPhoto window.

Any sort of order confirmation would have been nice because now I have no idea if the order in fact went through and I dont' want to try it again because I don't want to be racking up orders of this book for myself.

Is there any way to tell if you've been successful with ordering a book through iPhoto?

You should get an email receipt for your order. You can also go to http://www.apple.com/internetservices/yourorderstatus and log in to check the order/shipping status.
