when syncing, I get a message saying that some of my files cannot be synced because the ipod doesn't support them but it only gives me the name of one song, and I checked it out and it is infact .mp3.
Any ideas what might cause it to be unsyncable, and also, any way to find out which other songs it's not syncing without going through them one-by-one?

Stupid question: How did you verify this? Does the Finder preview state "MP3 audio file"?

Or are you going by name? (Because occasionally, when you have the Finder set to hide file name extensions, you might get a file that shows up as "Coolsong.mp3", but is actually named "Coolsong.mp3.mp2"

Have you tried importing it from within the Library (Advanced --> Convert to mp3)?

Just because the Finder thinks it's an mp3 or because the filename ends or looks like it ends in .mp3 doesn't make it an mp3. Try getting info on it from iTunes.

The same thing happened to me. I used Get Info in the Finder and found that there was no "Kind" field for the mp3 file while other mp3's said "MP3 File." I just converted the song to AAC and it worked fine.
