Since I re-did my computer, Quicktime 6.5 does not show up in Software Update. It only showed up when I had 10.3.2. I decided to go back to 10.3.1 because 10.3.2 had slow boot times. Is there a reason non of the software updates other than iTunes 4.2 showed up when I re-did my computer? The normal update appeared (AirPort, Battery, etc...) but non of the security update or Quicktime 6.5 showed up, even after going to 10.3.1. I had to manually download the two security updates, and then install them. I don't want to install 10.3.2, so can I just install Quicktime 6.5 standalone? Also, should i be worried other applications won't show up in the Software Update because I am not running 10.3.2?

Don't worry about any of it. In Jaguar, the only updates that showed up were those that you installed through Software Update. Anything you manuall installed didn't show up. I think its the same in jaguar.

Have you tried updating through the QuickTime System Preference? QT 6.5 never showed for me in 10.3.2 Software Update, but did show up in the QuickTime System Preference.

When I go to the Quicktime Preferences and click update, it loads the normal Software Update program and Quicktime 6.5 does not show up. I don't mind manually installing it, but I;m worried future updates may not show up.

Maybe you're already running QT 6.5. What exactly do you mean when you say you "re-did" your computer?

Downloading the QT 6.5 updater will work, though.

I reformatted and re-installed because 10.3.2 just wasn't what I expected it to be. I know I am not running Quicktime 6.5 because it never showed up in my Software update program. Also, the two 10.3.1 security updates didn't show up as well after I updated to 10.3.1, so this is why I found it weird. 3 programs haven't shown up, so I decided to see if it is a common thing.

That does seem weird. I don't think it's common.

I shut my powerbook off and I don't enjoy waiting 2-3 times as long for it to boot up. I would keep it in sleep, but the time's between me using it, and then sleep is long enough that I think it will effect battery life. Also, from looking at my system.log file, on bootup some errors were showing up in prebinding, so I decided that 10.3.1 would be better for me. I don't get any errors in it, and my windows networking wasn't fixed in 10.3.2, so the benefit of upgrading is nullified. Plus i don't play 3D games on my laptop, so the updated graphics drivers don't help me either.

Did you at least go to Apple's site and download Quicktime while waiting for an answer?

Yes, I have downloaded and installed it manually, but I was still wondering if anyone has an answer for me.

Sleep has very little effect on battery life. (You can leave your computer asleep for a month and it should only drain about 25% of your battery, in my unscientific tests)
prebinding errors... Hmm... I'll see if any of my computer have them later.
You still may want to get the updated video drivers as 3D acceleration covers your entire UI not just game performance.
