woke up this morning, opened the laptop, and bam, my friend in ny has the green phone icon next to his name, but it's not lit. text him real quick, who are you talking to and whose mac are you on?

"i am no mac."

what?! ok. so it turns out he just installed the latest official Aim client, but he's on a desktop with no microphone, so we couldn't try it.

someone try this out!
if they really added inter-compatibility (which i've been hoping for) that ROCKS.

It doesn't work...I had the same experience as you, normal PC person with a phone icon that was grayed out. From his end if he tries to start a conversation it says that our software is incompatible. However...it is strange that it uses the same way to tell the user if the person on the other end has a cam/audio enabled.

This is just a hint that Apple/AOL are working together to make the thing work... but it seems it's not yet ready... I guess it will require an iChat update (maybe at MWSF on jan 6th?)

I hope AOL sticks with SIP (a voice over IP protocol), instead of Apple having to add some proprietary protocol on top of iChat AV's SIP. Stick to one protocol!

How did it come to this? Goodbye PowerPC. | sensory output
