I have a LaCie PocketDrive and am thinking about using Carbon Copy Cloner to do automated backups of my "Users" folder (in order to backup documents, pictures, and music files regularly). I've scheduled it to backup the "Users" folder every day -- my question is... will CCC copy the ENTIRE "Users" folder every day, or will it only copy the NEW stuff that isn't already on my backup drive? If CCC copies everything everyday, is there software that will ONLY copy new stuff every day?

Thanks!

check in CCC's preferences (assuming you're are up to date and using 2.x version of CCC). There is a "synchronization" check box ... and another below that that will cause CCC to delete files from your backup if they were deleted from your main home folder. Nifty stuff ... I love CCC.

Note, you'll want a *very* new version of CCC to do this with panther. I believe CCC uses 'psync' to do this 'differential' update, and psync didn't work with Panther up until about a month ago.

Thanks for the tip .. I just checked bombich's site and apparently psync is still not working with Panther.. didn't know that as I usually just "clone" everything overnight or when I'm away from my machine for a while rather than mess with syncing.

Listen to CatOne, chrikenn ... then when psync is updated it should work as I described. Perhaps you'll just have to suffer thru a full clone (rather than sync) for a while.

Thanks for the replies. I did try with the sync, and with a freshly downloaded version of CCC, and it told me psync was not compatible. Any ideas when that new version will be out? I guess i can live with complete cloning for awhile... but syncing would be nice. Does silverkeeper offer this, perhaps?
