YESSS!!! Am posting this on my new DP 1.25 G4 PowerMac....after sitting looing out of the window for the delivery van, being told that "Ooh if he hasn't delivered it by now then you won't be getting it" I finally got the message that he'd delivered it to my neighbours house
Before I even powered it up I took the standard 256meg stick out and stuck my 1gig of Corsair memory in. This thing is sooo cool
Now then, first problem. I have the Mac connected to a Dell 1702FP TFT monitor, as I suspected the DVI didn't work (it never has on this monitor ) but even worse, when connected to the VGA of the TFT the Mac is saying that my max res is 1024x768 (this is a 17" TFT with a max res of 1280x1024)
On the (spit!) PC I also had this problem as the monitor was detected as a Samsung 15" TFT (go figure) but was solved by installing Dells driver for the monitor....now that ain't gonna work for my Mac as Dell doesn't supply Mac drivers. Is there any way to force 1280x1024 res?
Oooh long winded post, sorry

Sometimes you can uncheck 'show modes recommended by display' and get addtional resolutions.
If the DVI has never worked, I would call Dell and complain. They do have a good reputation for customer service and if you explain that you were uncertain before whether it was the computer that was at fault I'm fairly certain they'll opt to replace it.
In addition it sounds to me as if the monitor is not reporting the resolutions it is capable of. I believe the 'native resolution' for your display is 1280x1024 and should be on the list if not the only option.

CONGRATS! I told you you'd love the DP 1.25Ghz G4, huh?
Also, I'd highly recommend sticking the 256MB stick you took out back in! There's no reason not to have as much RAM as possible in your machine.

First of all: congrats!
I have to ask you, too: Is the noise level acceptable?
I still canīt figure out whether to go for a 1.8 G5 or a dual 1.25. Will use for audio, so fan noise is hardly tolerable...

you sure the DVI doesn't work? Sometimes it doesn't recognize to use the DVI instead of the VGA, but there's a button on the front to manually change it, or atleast there was on my 1900FP.

The fan noise on my Dual 1.25Ghz (new model w/o FW800) is very acceptable; I only hear the fans upon bootup, and afterwards, they never even catch my ear's attention.

The fans on my dual 867 (when I had it) were quite loud). Even after I put in the replacements it was no where near as quiet as a G5 tower. Just adding some input to ths mix.

The G4s are pretty quiet but the G5s are even quieter.

Nope I'me pretty sure the DVI doesn't work...never did. Monitor isn't under warranty anymore so will have to maybe sell it and buy a Formac TFT I have the Mac connected to my 19" CRT atm anyway (nice high res )
There seems to be a problem with the Mac "waking up" once it has been left for a while, again something I can live with (you ever tried this on a pc?)....
Apart from that this thing rocks my world...

You can try downloading SwitchRes Pro. It'll force resolutions that you don't "support." Dangerous for some older CRTs (like, from early 90s and back), but no problem for LCDs or newer CRTs.

Congrats on your G4! I got mine a couple weeks ago and I love it. Fan is really quiet in X, but definitely louder when I boot into OS9.

I noticed on one of the other threads that you posted that you where looking for a 9800 to put in your new machine.
I found this over on MacBidouille and thought it might save you some money:
"One of our friends had the chance to compare a Radeon 9700 and a Radeon 9800 Pro on a Dual G4 1.42 GHz. The results are a bit disappointing. The Radeon 9800 Pro does not increase by any number the FPS rate using UT2003. the G4 processor gets saturated before the Radeon 9800 Pro, and then also probably before the Radeon 9700. It is absolutely possible that only a Dual G5 2GHz has enough processing resources to take advantage of the currently most powerful graphic cards on the market."

To be honest a Radeon 9600 Pro or GeForce FX 5600 Ultra would do.....I just don't know of anywhere in the UK that sells those cards.
BTW am working on the missus to let me buy a Formac 17" TFT next (as well as the Gfx card and Superdrive, am gutted my Sony DRU 500A doesn't work....I get frequent crashes when that is installed :s)

Ooh, my Power Mac G4 dual 1.25 gets here tomoro... after I pick it up from John Lewis... they matched Apple's prices, so I got it for Ģ1137 which is a good deal methinks!
Apple screwed it up, I was ordering from them, but after originally telling me it would take 9 days to get to me they decided it was infact gonna take about 40 days. Whee...
Anyway, I cancelled my order this morning and headed off to John Lewis... and it's ordered, all I have to do is go pick it up from the warehouse tomorrow morning.
The 17 inch Apple Studio Display has been sat on my desk for nearly two weeks now, so its gonna be great to see them both up and running.
I'm not sure, but I think this might be a brand new, unopened, example of the last G4 models before the G5's... so I might even get FW 800... oooh!
I will tell u tomoro!

Yey!
Dual 1.25 goodness...
And it is one of the ones with FW800... excellent.
All seems well, apart from a quiet, but slightly annoying, chug from the main internal fan...
I can live with that!
Wheeeee!

Yeah that's right no OS9, not that I'll miss it as I've never used it.
I am having problems with this Mac now, I have another post detailing what's wrong titled "Does my Mac need to warm up?" or something to that effect anyway.
*sigh* nothing is ever straightforward is it

The currently available G4 towers have FW400 and CAN boot Mac OS 9. They also have standard Airport support and no internal Bluetooth support.
The model that they replaced where Mac OS X only, had FW800, and Airport Extreme.
