My company has six 1.6ghz G5s sitting on a pallet for the past 7+ months. They've never been powered up and likely won't be for months. What I'm curious about is what problems could they be causing for these G5s? Will the internal battery die? Is that even a big deal? Would the most important thing be the running out warranty? I'm trying to give them reason to try selling them internally so I can buy one.
Thanks

As long as they're not in a humid environment, they could probably stay there for years and still be operational. If kept in an ideal environment, the only thing you would have to worry about is the little CMOS, or whatever it's called in Apple jargon battery going dead.

That battery is usually good for three years, but I would worry more that they might leak!

What would cause you to worry about the battery leaking?

I don't see any problems.. besides the obvious waste of warrenty and the saddness those poor little machines must be going through without being played with But that can be solved easily.. just send one my way

hell, I wish I could. I've been trying to get one since they came back. It seems the company that bought they doubled their order, but the dopes opened every one of the boxes making it impossible for us to get the return from Apple. if they sold them internally we'd be able to get them for $800 each. yum

I think I remember reading something many years ago that unusused batteries are more likely to leak than ones that are discharged while being used. Maybe it's a myth or happens with really old batteries.

Otherwise, they G5s should be fine.
