Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right forum, but I just wanted to share my G5 / Apple support story. I bought a dual 2.0 after the initial launch almost a year ago. Loved it immediately, but soon after ran into problems. The Superdrive failed. I brought it back from my local Apple Service Center and it was working well again. A few months later, the screen went blank - the ATI Graphics card failed. Got it fixed. A few weeks after that, the fan started humming uncontrollably and the power supply was replaced. All was well once again. Finally, just two weeks ago, the logic board failed and compromised my hard drive data.
In the process, my company was working on a major website update for one of our clients. All of our data is backed up, but I was upset and thoroughly convinced that we purchased a lemon. To make matters worse, my G5 install disc went missing - which never occurs. None of my Powerbook, or G4 install discs would take. So I ran down to my local Apple Store, invoices and repair sheets in hand, and explained my situation. Needing the disc that day, I was going to buy Panther but decided to talk to the manager first.
I talked with Ron from the Valley Fair store, and he gave me a full copy of Panther on the spot. No hassles. It was a great gesture on their part, and my faith in their service and support has been restored.
I just wanted to say thanks to Apple. But, I hope I never have to see their service department again.

Thet don't always build perfect machines, but from my experience, they do try. I've had to return my Powerbook twice, (once for white spots on the display, and once for a bad video card) and they turned it in three days each time. My 3 Y.O. G4 tower at work has had a processor go bad twice now, and they turned it pretty quickly, too. Phone support has been generally pleasant and agreeable. I rattled off the symptoms, told 'em what I thought it was, and they all agreed pretty quickly and got me a case number. No lengthy back and forth or stonewalling.

spooky story!
I mean it, because I have several macs and my G4 400 (work horse) has never had a problem (until last week, when the keyboard went mad, but that's ok now, I think it was related to the humidity).
I would like to assume that when I get my G5 2x2GHz, it will behave the same way for the same 4+ years...
good luck to you! (and to me )
