is it feasible / possible to replace an a/v setup ( tv etc ) with a powermac / 30"?

i'm thinking in the not too distant future of u/grading my tv , but looking at the 30" apple display , it seems such good value that i could buy one of these and a G5 for the price of a plasma
anyone done this before ?
i'm thinking eyetv to replace my vcr etc ?
ive got the usb eye tv and it works surprisingly well , the f/w one would be even better !?

I'd imagine it's totally feasible. I'm not familiar with the specifics of the El Gato stuff, but so long as it has a remote (or you have a bluetooth phone and use Salling Clicker to control the TV/DVD player, etc) you should be fine.
I'd imagine you'd need an HD feed to make sure the picture looked good at full screen sized (I have an Alchemy TV card and while it works great, full screen TV looks like arse). Someone a little more in the know may have some more useful tips, but I from the surface, I don't think your plan is a bad one...

The 30" display is good for watching dvds, but probably not as sharp as you are expecting. The 30" display has such monster resolution, that it has to do a fair amount of interpolating for dvds. I've watched a few movies on my 30" display, and when you get close, the detail gets a little bit fuzzy at native resolution. But it is a killer display!
