just started going clickity clackity and making all kinds of noise. I tried cleaning the dust out of it, but it didn't help so I put the old MX back until I can find a fix. Any suggestions?
I was contemplating going liquid-cooled for the whole system, which would of course take care of the problem, but I'm still stuck on water blocks and finding something compatible with my CPUs and of course the GPU, since everything inside the PowerMac has to be just a *little* different than the PC counterpart...

My 4600Ti went the same way. I used a "Vantec Iceberq 4 Pro VGA Cooler". It's a little louder than the stock fan but you do get 4 copper heatsinks as well and full instructions.

Did the holes line up with the holes on the card for mounting? That was the problem when I went to look at the store - the cooling fans for PC cards have different mounting dimensions. Looks like the only way is to find the same exact heatsink, or buy something PC and mod it to fit.
EDIT: never mind - i found it on the site, the holes line up so I ordered one. Hopefully it won't be much louder - box is loud enough already!

i would do what i'm doing. mine isn't dead yet, but i think it's on its way and its always been really loud, louder than any everything else in the system. i'm picking up a NV Silencer 1 from newegg. these things have great reviews and are close to silent. it's made by artic cooling. here's the newegg link: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...186-117&depa=0

I actually looked at that one, but it requires an open PCI slot below the video card (for the exiting air) which my MDD G4 is lacking - don't know if other macs have that but you might want to check before ordering. I was really all set to buy it until I found that out.

I'd really recommend an NV Silcencer. I have an ATi Silencer and it was well worth the 25dollar price tag. blows the heat directly out of the case, near silent operation, plus it provides better cooling than the stock Heat sink/fan combo anyway. but it does suck that it uses a PCI slot.

I would gladly give up a PCI slot to get hot air off the GPU and out of the case, but with only an AGP slot in my machine to plug the graphic card into, its not an option since that slot is at the very bottom. ug.

MDD G4 - last G4 powermac before the G5s. Actually it conveniently blows hot air right down onto the heatsink for the processors...

Installed the Vantec fan mentioned earlier and all is well. I don't notice it at all, and certainly don't think it is any louder than the stock fan -- but maybe that's because the old fan was making more noise than it should have.
Plus the inside of my case is glowing blue now, which is always a good thing.

but, if it works for you, great I'm still using mine for better circulation, but almost always on low.

Probably because I have so many other loud fans in there it doesn't stand a chance!
Didn't know you could regulate the speed - how is that done?
