I called an Apple store in another state and they had one in stock but they said that they couldnt ship it to me. Whats that all about? I know you can order from the stores online. So whats the deal? Did this guy not know what he was talking about?

Well, as I understand it, the Apple Online Store is not necessarily run by Apple. Maybe I got the wrong impression, but when I ordered mine from the Apple Education Online Store, the guy suggested that they were a thrid party company, just like any other Apple reseller.

Anyone know this for sure?

Well I pre-ordered mine but Im getting pissed that people are just walking into Apple stores and buying them so Im trying to get one like that.

You would think that Apple would fulfill all the backorders before selling them to Walk-ins.

I did the same thing. About ten apple stores had non-reserved stock, but they wouldn't ship. One place said that they didn't have the facilities to do it and the others just said that they weren't allowed to.

Yes but what the Apple stores WILL do is transfer stock to another Apple store. So if your local Apple store doesn't have one and you can find it at another, ask them to transfer it.

Of course, this doesn't help you if you don't have an Apple store near you...

I'm Australia, the apple store online is also not run by apple themselves. They are acting like a reseller. The only difference is that they get better buying prices than other privately run reseller stores.
