Due to an unexpected supply delay, we are unable to ship the following items by the date that you were originally quoted.

PBG4 15.2/1GHZ/512/60/CMBO/AP/LL will now ship on or before 09/17/2003

I got an email this evening stating the above. No other reason to post this except that I'm looking for sympathy.

C'mon Apple I'm dyin' here!

That sucks.... wow, I'm suprised that there will be a delay for the 15 inch. I guess they ARE running out of these 15 inchers.

You should count yourself lucky: That's the day after Steve Jobs' keynote at the Paris MacWorld. Everybody is fervently hoping that new models will be announced--if so, you may have been spared from buying an perfectly ok laptop only to discover a week later that it's been replaced by new models.

The way the rumors are swirling there's no guarantee that anything will be introduced, but best guess is that new models are at most a month out.

My Ipod has been pushed back to the same date. Now I'm worried that I might not make the rebate.

I feel your pain.

Can you cancel your order? If yes, then do so and wait until 09/16.

Doesn't this basically tell us that Apple is out of the current Ti and that your order has been pushed back to that date because the new 15" PowerBook (probably Al) will start shipping at that day?

A dealer here told a friend of mine that they are dry and that his order would get pushed to the date by which the new models will ship because Apple will just bump non-fulfilled orders to the next rev...

This is about the most concrete evidence I think we've seen that new 15" PB's may just be on the way...

y2k, Please wait, cancel that order, and the end result will be well worth it.

The powerbooks HAVE to be revised soon. Currently all but the emac and ibook have not been revised, and those can be silent, but everyone's been waiting for a new powerbook.

If you don't wait just another week I feel you'll be making a big mistake.

Agreed.

First piece of "evidence" I've heard that would convince me a new PB update is imminent... the date and the fact that big-Steve is unexpectedly doing the keynote are just too convenient to be mere chance methinks.

Even if there is a new one coming, do you REALLY want it? I say this from experience from having bought rev. A machines and been disappointed on several occasions. The best machines Apple has produced have been those at the end of the life of the product line. Just look at the pismo 400/500mhz and titanium 867/1ghz. The new pb might be great, but it might also have lots of minor problems that need to be fixed with later revisions. My advice is to think carefully about it. I have a powerbook G4 1ghz and it's simply and awsome, reliable and inspiring machine. sure I'll be tempted when I see the new ones, but better safe, happy and slightly behind the bleeding, cutting edge than...

Good luck! Sorry about the delay! I know the feeling....

about that rebate... the powerbook and ipods have to be PURCHASED by then, but you have until november to mail in the UPC's and reciepts. Check the rebate pdf at apple.com. When i buy my stuff i will ask the store to ring up the purchase now so i get a reciept... at least before 9/27... and i pray that it all works out..

If you really want a Ti 1Ghz, I'm sure you can cancel your order and find one somewhere. According to MacPrices.com, Best Buy has them in stock.

Update!

I spoke to someone at Apple by phone a few hours ago, and she said my PowerBook is being built right now. It should be ready to go by tomorrow.

The 9/17 deadline Apple mentioned in the email to me was exactly 7 days after the original shipping deadline they gave me in my order confirmation email. I guess when something doesn't ship on time they just push the shipping deadline back by 7 days. So unfortunately, 9/17 wasn't chosen because they're going to start shipping the 15" AlBooks that day.

I can't really wait for the AlBook anyway. I've been waiting months as it is for 15" AlBook's to be released, but I'm moving to Japan on Sept 23 so I need this PowerBook (with all the data, MP3s, etc, from my desktop PC transfered over) by that day. 9/17's cutting a little too close to comfort for me.

To go one further (and if you want a 17"), PowerMax has a refurb 17 incher for $2888... that's the lowest non-used price I've seen in a while, and depending on the options for your Ti, might only be slightly more expensive.

If I could have found one that cheap when I bought my Ti I *might* have gone for it, even though I find it entirely too large for my purposes.

What rebate are you talking about. Is their an iPod rebate?

Also. Do you think it is wise to wait if I was going to buy a new iPod. Do you think new color ones are coming out.

I would say it is a good time to buy an ipod since they were just revised this week. I don't think you will see an update to the ipods anytime before January. Besides, why add color to the ipod display? It works just fine the way it is.

Or are you refering to ipods being made in colors other than white? I haven't heard anything about that.

You can buy my 1 GHz PowerBook G4 (15.2" with the ComboDrive) for $2,100.00 plus shipping of your choice. Look in the Marketplace forum for a new topic by me with pictures and more info. It's in just-like-new shape, barely used.

I think the ipod rebate is for students only. If you buy a power book and an ipod you get $300 back I have nothing to worry about now.

No question, there is likely to be elevated problems wit Rev A machines but most buyers, the vast majority, will be getting rock-solid boxes that they will have no problems with whatosover. I will gladly order Rev A powerbook with confidence that it will be problem-free machine. Yes, kinks will appear but Apple will stand behind the product. You won't be a guinea pig - you will be in heaven!
