on the contrary. 10.3.2 makes the original modification work again, see:

I added a file in my home /library/DiscRecording/DeviceProfiles/ with the name UJ815.drprofile "
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<array>
<dict>
<key>DRDevicePersonalities</key>
<array>
<dict>
<key>DRDeviceProductName</key>
<string>DVD-RAM UJ-815A</string>
<key>DRDeviceVendorName</key>
<string>MATSHITA</string>
</dict>
</array>
<key>DRDeviceProfile</key>
<dict>
<key>DRDeviceDescription</key>
<string>2x1x16x8x24</string>
</dict>
<key>DRDeviceProfileVersion</key>
<integer>1</integer>
</dict>
</array>
</plist>
"
save as plain text and utf-8.
after restart the system profiler calls my drive as "DRDeviceSupportLevelUnsupported"
I changed in this file the name to UJ-815 after applying cynikal region free firmware update (changed with hexeditor the MKE815DDCB file from the package at the address 0000bacc: DVD-R UJ-815 to DVD-RAM UJ-815A). My drive is now called a uj-815 and not anymore uj-815a. region free behavior is there (X101), burns DVD-R and CD-R normally, I have no DVD-RAM or DVD-RW to test.
good luck.
