Hi Macnn

I recently bought a Powerbook 17 1.33, and for the first month it was perfect. A great machine.

But Ive just notice that its now developed a thin pixel wide pink line that runs vertically down the screen.

It is quite faint, but on a red background it is bright enough to distract me.

Any ideas why this happened?
How do I fix it?
Can AppleCare come to the rescue?

Thanks

Good grief.

I've got a 17 incher too.

So far I've only got one little dead red pixel hidden away in the top right corner that I never notice unless the screen saver comes on and I go hunting for it.

All the best with trying to get it fixed/replaced. Give Apple Care a care with a line of pixels they'll hopefully come to the party.

By the way, changing tracks completely I upgraded to 10.3.2 last week and the iLife (?) programs like iPhoto, iMail etc started to act strange. Like they would refuse to access saved data. All my old photos/tunes/address contacts/emails etc were on my hard drive but the programs refused to open them and my expose settings would randomly disappear.

After hours with Apple support they suggested a reinstall. It crapped out and I had to reinstall 10.3 from scratch. Bye-bye all my data. Oh well fresh starts and all that. All part of the learning experience I guess.

Anyway I just wanted to check with another 17 owner to see if they made the leap to 10.3.2 ok. So far I'm sticking with 10.3 and everything is going fine . . . (touch wood). I love this computer

Sorry about the ramble. Good luck with the screen. Please keep us all informed.

A line of pixels is a hardware fault (99.99%) of them time. You can try booting off your DVD to rule out the .01% chance it is somehow software related.

This kind of fault could be a pinched LCD cable or other display hardware fault. Either way it is fully covered under the 1 year warranty.
