I just bought and attempted to install an airport card in my 1Ghz Albook, running 10.3.2. It just wont detect the damn thing. Under the System Profiles, it says No information found for the airport card category.

Im pretty sure I installed in properly, I unseated and seated it TWICE, pushing it in all the way it would go, and I got the cable in nice and snug. I ran the airport setup disc, installing the 10.3.2 package before and after installation of the card.

How can I get it to recognize the airport card?

Im in dire straits...

It should just be a plug and play operation. If not, something is likely wrong hardware wise, either with the AE card, or the socket in the Powerbook.

Do you have a local Apple Service center around? They could swap in a known working AE card to help narrow down the exact problem.

Did you push it all the way in? I had the same thing happen when I installed my AE card. I put it in and pushed it into the slot. I was more afraid of breaking it than anything else. Once I got the AE card pushed it it worked. If you need to take it to an Apple store and have them look at it.

I had the same problem. However, the problem was that the little brown flap next to the connector for the airport card had become disconected from the motherboard. all i had to do is push it in. with a little help from the engineer at my place of employement ;-) It's always a little scary to deal with the motherboard, if you are a little timid about it. I'm sure if you take it to any apple store they would do it for free. If that is your problem... My book is a Ti g4 500mgz... but it should be the same set up.

Good Luck

No, it is not the same as a titanium Powerbook. If you think you have it in correctly and you're at 10.3.2, don't bother with the included CD. Open up your network preferences and in the show pop-up, go to network port configurations. Do you see the Airport card there? If so, make sure the checkbox is checked. If you do not see it and you still don't see it in ASP, you may have a bad Airport Extreme card. Time to exchange it or try it in someone else's machine.

well, I got it working, I really had to jam it in there. I was going by the installation photos on the apple website, which show the card being flush with the battery compartment, which is totally not true in my Albook's case. I must have had it misaligned when I was pushing it in the first time, which gave me the impression it was seated.

I had to reboot my computer TWICE to make it work though. Interestingly, the airport cd it came with had an airport update 3.2 for OSX 10.3. I ran that installer after I jammed my card in, rebooted, and the airport didnt show. I rebooted again, by some chance, and suddenly the card was recognized.

Ever since then its been a snap, works perfectly. Im using it with a Netgear WGR614 802.11g router. Works like a charm.

Thanks for the help! And dont trust the applecare pictures.

Yeah I know. the first time I installed it I thought I did it right too on my ALbook. I was afraid of breaking it. I finally just pushed it really hard in there and it worked.
