Hello all, been a loooong time since I have been here, but I need some help.

Recently picked up a 400mhz Tibook. First one ever. Still a great machine for internet
email. However, last night I popped it open
to finish watching the DVD I had in the drive.

The computer locked up when I tried to relaunch DVD Player, and now it will not
read the optical drive. It doesnt even spin the disc anymore, nor does it show up
on my system profiler.

I was wanting to put a combo drive in there
anyway, but I would like to get me disc out.

Any ideas??
Thanks in advance.

There are a couple things you can try.

1) Hit the power switch and hold the mouse button (trackpad button) down. This should eject the DVD.

2) There is a force-eject switch on the optical drive. You'll need to straighten a paperclip and get the switch with it. There will be a slight dimple in the foam where you need to stick the paperclip. If you have the "Getting Started With Your PowerBook ..." book it should have a diagram in there.

Thanks, gave that a try and nothing. Its like the drive isnt even getting power.

Thinking about cracking this thing open to see if a connection came loose.

Any other suggestions.

try:

& for the manuals in PDF:

The slot loaders can be tricky sometimes, v picky about the media used as well.
