I'm trying to figure out how to send a note on my iPhone to a SMS recipient — if that is even possible. The little envelope below the note opens the note in an Email, but that's not what I need. :/

You can do it in the same way you would send an sms from any email client (which is to say, you'd have to send it to the sms' email address for his carrier). For example, an email to 8435551212@txt.att.net would send an sms to an att/cingular cellphone's sms.
