I'm wondering if anyone here (that has an Apple TV) can help me diagnose a problem I've got. I've scoured the internets and have called Apple support but have not been able to get a definitive answer. It's a simple question: Does the Apple TV somehow impose a bitrate limit on AC-3 audio? The Dolby Digital wiki says that the bitrate goes up to 640 Kbps (for high def movies) and is 448 Kbps for DVD quality. I've got a few HD movies that have AC-3 audio at 640 Kbps but get no sound when playing via the Apple TV. Played on my Mac, they work just fine (I assume that has to do with the Perian plug-in). My theory is that my problem is due to one of two things; the Apple TV somehow can't handle the audio bitrate > 448 Kbps (even though it is just passing it through to the A/V reciever), or my 8 year old A/V receiver can't handle the higher bitrate audio.
So here's my request. I've uploaded a 1 minute sample of a movie with 640 Kbps AC-3 audio to rapidshare. If you've got a few minutes to spare, can you download the file and import it into iTunes and try playing it on your Apple TV? I'd like to figure out if it's my receiver or the Apple TV.
You can PM me for the rapidshare link.
