ok, so whenever I press a button on my TiVo remote since the last AppleTV update, my AppleTV's status light blinks. I think Apple might be tracking my TiVo usage. What do you all think this is? Why is the AppleTV responding to my TiVo remote?

It's because they use the same RF frequency. Any device on the same frequency will receive each other's commands, they'll just ignore commands that don't belong to them.

My TV also flashes when I send remote commands to either my Tivo or XBox. Doesn't mean anything at all.

Neither device operates off RF remotes - they use IR.

All glory to the hypnotoad.

The "frequency" explanation still holds with IR, though. There are really only a few discrete IR remote systems, and Apples is not unique. Basically, if it runs a TV system, there's a good chance that at least some commands will be recognized from some other remote. No biggie.

My tv remote in my bedroom sometimes turns the fan on. It's annoying, but nothing to worry about... Unless it really is spying on you!!!

Back in the day, my Sony Receiver remote would do things with my Performa 6400 - more specifically the power button. That was a crazy day until I figured out why my computer kept turning on and off over and over again.
