Does Apple help out if you were to let them know that your iPhone was stolen? I know about the Mobile Me feature but if you were to give them your serial number and someone else registered the phone would they be able to do anything? My buddies iphone was stolen this past weekend and he doesnt have mobile me and he has already gotten his phone deactivated. Just trying to help him out.

I think if the thief ever takes it to an Applestore for repair the might do something. Other than that I doubt it highly.

I was wondering the same thing this week.. Can your cell provider track the MAC address "equivalent" on its network and link it to the current user's account?

Actually they do blacklist the IMEI here in Canada so it can't be used on any GSM carrier worldwide if you call it in and report it stolen.

I wish I would had Lojack on my stolen iPhone!
My iPhone was stolen in a restaurant, I was gone for less than a minute and it was gone.
With the serial number, I reported the stolen iPhone on http://www.stolen-property.com/report-stolen-iPhone.php
It's a free global stolen property database - not just for stolen iPhones.
Hopefully it helps catch the thief.

This probably will feel like more salt in the wound, jacobi, but I'm with tooki and analogue. My iPhone is with me, or with someone I trust all the time; I would never leave it unattended.
Of course I would have turned in your unattended phone to the management (publicly, so there would be witnesses) in case you'd actually forgotten it, but that's just me.
