I have an Apple iBook G4, with iTunes 4.7. I use an Apple iPod 4G 20mb.

My daughter had manually placed some of her songs she had on my iBook onto her new Mini iPod (2G, 6GB). It did not require installation of the CD that came with her Mini iPod.

She decided to then upload her music from her own Windows laptop (running iTunes 4.9 for Windows) onto her Mini iPod. After connecting via the supplied USB cable, she was asked to insert the installation disc. She then disconnected the Mini iPod, and found that, her music in iTunes was safe, but the tracks on the Mini iPod that had been installed from my iBook were gone; her Mini iPod shows no songs. Also, before disconnection, her Mini iPod was identified with the name of MY iPod.

Now, I figure the installation disc should have been installed before connecting the Mini iPod to the Windows laptop?

And how do we re-name the Mini iPod with it's own name, not the name of my iPod?

Anyone recommend resetting the Mini iPod? After all, all the songs have been wiped off already, so no loss there.

Advice welcome, thanks!

When you connect an iPod to a system with a user that contains a different library, it will erase the iPod and copy the current library. I don't know why the iPod was renamed, but you can just rename it to anything you wish through the Finder. If your daughter wants to have all her music on her iPod, she will need to create a consolidated library on one of the computers. Finally, as long as the iPod is functioning properly, there's no need to restore it. On the other hand, it does not hurt to do so as long as your realize it will erase the iPod.
