hey all;

wondering if its possible to use an original 5gb ipod as a HDD. i know it can be done already just by plugging it in, but what i'd really like to do is, use it in conjunction with my digital camera. its a nikon d70s, but its got a usb 2 link not firewire.

so i guess i'm wondering if i have any options for turning this into a "in-the-field" HD for use with my camera. i'm about to head off on a backcountry trip and wont be bringing my PB, and was looking for a way to store my photos without buying mutiple CF cards.

thanks to all in advance.

I'm just getting interested in iPods, so I don't know if the first gen iPods have USB capability, but all the new ones come with a USB cable and you have to purchase a firewire cable separately. The only issue I see that might get in your way is whether the iPod would act as a "device" or a "computer" when talking to your camera-and of course which role your camera plays as well.

i was thinking that perhaps i could use a CF card reader in conjunction with the iPod. i havent looked but does anyone know if they make firewire CF readers? guess i'll go look. all i really want to do is DL the photos to the iPod for storage till i get home to my PB.
