Hi guys, was wondering if this Apple iPod Dock Connector to FireWire and USB 2.0 Cable charges the full-sized iPod if I use were to connect it to my iBook's Firewire port?

Am pretty miffed that Apple won't ship a Firewire cable in those iPods these days in order to offer iPods at lower prices. Have they forgotten about us Mac users?

Ummm...there seems to be a lot of external, non-Apple accessories to consider here. Like a car power adapter that depends on a USB cable instead of a firewire connector. And USB2 is pretty darn close to basic firewire-often a bit faster. Your Mac has USB ports...I don't understand the problem.

Well, my iBook is a G3 700 and it doesn't have USB 2.0 ports, so Firewire is pretty much the better option for me.

The Apple 2-in-1 cable is US$19.

Either that or I could buy the SendStation PocketDock (Firewire only) which lists a RRP of S$18.95, but I have no idea how much the local retailers will jack the price up to.

But if I get the PocketDock, it means I'd still have to use the provided USB 2.0 cable to charge the iPod if I am without my iBook since the iPod comes with a USB wall charger.

Why not just buy the proprietary iPod FireWire cable seen here?

The price is the same, but I own one of those dual cables from my old 15GB 3G iPod (which STILL doesn't charge under USB 2.0, which is retarded, even after software updates). The dual cables are extremely long and cumbersome. They were meant to plug into both a USB 2.0 port on a Windows PC, and then the FireWire port on the 3rd generation iPod wall charger.

I only use the dual cable because my brother refuses to give me the proprietary FireWire cable he has. I had to wind half of it up with twist-ties to hide its cables behind my iMac. By the way, I'm in your position. I still use a USB 2.0 cable for connecting to my wall charger. I have a 2nd-gen iPod mini.

Hope that helps you.

Griffin PowerPod http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...360622-8110342
$11.95
Notice it comes with a 4 foot firewire cable; and you can use it to charge your iPod in the car.

Hmm. Thanks for the feedback.

Sometimes the Apple store doesn't give a better description for the products.
