Problems w/ iPod Shuffle not playing new songs just added to it?

A friend just emailed me and mentioned that his wife'sm iPod, as well as another friend's are having problems. Something about them refusing to play songs newly added to them. They had been working okay previously.

I seem to remember reading or hearing something about this problem recently but don't recall where or the details.

Does anyone recognize this problem or know a fix?
