on macnn recently, I saw an adapter that let you get your audio out from an adapter that is from the bottom of the ipod... aka, some special high quality headphone size jack that comes from the dock port, versus the headphone. I can't remember who made this adapter... any one remember?

The iPod dock has a line out port on the back (or at least the 3G ones do, I assume it's still there on the 4G).

There are a couple of adapters for playing your iPod in your car through the in-dash system. They are a combination of a special dock connector that gets left and right channel audio out of the iPod and provides power to it, and an adapter that connects the signals to your car stereo and provides charging power. The ones I've seen are about as expensive as an iPod Mini...
If you search for "ipod" and "car stereo" you'll probably come across these devices pretty quickly. Here's one and a link to a review of another one.

Are you talking about the sendstation products? They have dock to firewire, dock to firewire/usb, dock to usb/line out, and dock to firewire/line out. See www.sendstation.com

Are you thinking of Sendstation's PocketDock series?
