Well, we were trying to say to Apple today that they have left 9 days and iPod shuffle will be smashed by Sony Ericsson W800. Remember, Steve Jobs was saying to MS on WWDC that we count down time for Windows Vista, so now looks like Cupertino have to do something about iPod Shuffle because Walkman will be released all over the Europe on 12 of August.
http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashb...countdown.html
Apple were pissed off so much that they forgot to post a right link to download. :-)
so, there is a broken link, but you could get it from http://www.mactoday.ru/software.html

Comparing a cell phone to an iPod Shuffle is kind of Apples and oranges, don't you think? Damn you Apple for leaving the ability to make phone calls out of my little tiny MUSIC PLAYER.

From the Mobile Gazette:

Sony Ericsson W800 / W800i / W800c

Due 2005
1st March 2005

The Sony Ericsson W800 is a long-rumoured Walkman branded phone that attempts to combine the features of a digital music player, mobile phone and camera into the one device.

It's certainly an impressive and snazzy-looking phone, with up to 30 hours playback time, a powerful set of audio playback applications, 2 megapixel digital camera, FM radio and a 512Mb Sony Memory Stick Duo bundled in, but the W800 is certainly no iPod killer.

There are plenty of good points here - the device weighs just 100 grams and it seems to be easy to use, both on the handset itself and by using Sony Ericsson's Disk2Phone software to transfer CD tracks to the W800. It can play back MP3 and AAC files too, so it's quite flexible. The 176x220 pixel display is in 262,000 colours, a pretty standard but good quality unit.

But even though 512Mb is impressive, it's nothing compared to the standard 4Gb in an iPod mini. We believe that the W800 can be upgraded to a more impressive 2Gb though. Also, surely this sort of handset is crying out to be 3G compatible so that tracks can be easily downloaded over the air. Even with the "Walkman" logo, it's clear that the W800 is just a phone even if it's pretty capable - in fact it seems to be almost identical to the new K750, just with different software - and just like the K750 is has a web browser, email client and PC synchronisation capabilities.

Still, this is an interesting and capable collection of features which may (or may not) have a significant market niche. It certainly looks cool though.

The W800 will be available as the W800i in Europe and Worldwide, plus the W800c in China. Both variants are tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz handsets with GPRS.

Note from me: It doesn't even compare to the iPod shuffle.
1) Shuffle has no screen
2) Shuffle is smaller, lighter, and simple.
3) People don't want to shuffle their phone calls. I'd like to see Sony say, "Call people, Randomly" lol

I had Sony Ericsson P800, P900, and now bought k750, I'm pretty happy with this little gadget that could do a lot of things. I have 1Gb MMS Duo Pro in it and have tons of music and applications, I have even converted Pirates of Silicon Valley to mp4 and show it to every of my friends. People soon stop buy this iPod shuffle because it's has no future it's just a player. I had 5Gb the first iPod and the 15Gb, now I don't use them. I found out that actually I don't listen a lot music, so I don't need a huge storage in the player, I need it smaller but with a lot functions.
So, W800 and K750 is really a killer of iPod's. You'll see.

So how is a cell phone gonna replace my 30g iPod?

And no, while cell phones with mp3 playing ability is neat. It will never REPLACE full fledged mp3 players.

It's not going to dethrone the iPod. Sorry, it's been tried before and it will fail.

Will the Sony hook up to my Mac and download iTunes? (Nope, hence it will fail)

70 percent market share boys... 70 percent. Sony = Pfffft...

I hate mobile phones to begin with. The quality sucks in most of them, and the service providors, so why would I want another feature in a pos phone?

Make the phone work first, then I will everywhere take it....

Well, you have to get one W800 in your hands and after that you'll never want iPod. :-D
As I said, you don't listen all your 30Gb of music everyday, so there is no needs to 30Gb hard drive in your iPod.

If ever I needed something to play music while I worked out, it would be an iPod shuffle as it works with the Mac that I own and iTunes. Does your almighty phone have iTunes on it? You aren't suggesting people crack the DRM to play their iTunes on that phone are you?

What makes you think that phone will even put a mild scratch on the surface of iTunes and the iPod?

Can you respond to my 70% market share owned by Apple? Or do you choose to ignore this and then base your conclusions on false and incomplete information?

Yes, it's almost iTunes, like Motorola will release soon, and MacOS mount flash drive on the your desktop and in the near future I'll make an application that will sync K750 and W800 with iTunes, at the moment there is a few sripts that alow do so.
About 70 % of market, which market? US market, it's not around the world. By the way, it's very easy to loose market share speically there is no future for iPod, it's just a player.
I don't want to caring with me cell phone, pda, iPod, photo camera, and look like a cop with tons of stuff on the belt. Thank you.

No way Apple will allow this. You need to crack the DRM to do so, and that ain't going to happen.

"Almost like iTunes" A copy is nothing but a cheap immitation of the original.... why would I want that?

Address my 70 percent market share and maybe I'll continue to humor you... until then, learn what the word LEGAL means.

There is nothing special about this phone, there are tons of phones on the market that play MP3, etc.. One of the things I love about the Shuffle is it's tiny, much smaller than a cell phone. Plus it doubles as my thumb drive, always ready to snap into an available USB port. Most importantly, it's cheap - I don't worry about losing it all the time like my iPod and Treo.

Phones are not in direct competition with iPods of any kind. Apple won't even see this phone on their radar, really they won't.

This is dumb—they serve different purposes for different people. Many have shuffles because of how tiny they are; they are much preferred to exercise with than a cell phone flopping around in your athletic shorts.

iPod's shuffle killer widget second try
Cellphones are to be compared to other cellphones, while MP3 players are to be compared to other MP3 players. When you shop at an online store, often times the site allows you to compare similar products. You compare apples with other apples (Red Delicious is my favourite, by the way), and oranges with oranges (Navel). You do not compare Red Delicious with Navel, because some people have vitamin C deficiencies, in which case, they will choose the orange.

Hmm, okay, that was a terrible analogy, but what I'm trying to say is: give me your iPod. I'll put it to good use. Hell, I'll even give you one of my old cell phones. Win-win.

MAC-ALEX,

Just because you don't listen to music very often, doesn't mean other people are the same way. Most people who bought an iPod knew they were going to be using it, and they don't regret it to this day. Why did you buy an iPod in the first place? Sucker to gadgets? I know, it happens to the best of us. But the main reasons for a shuffle are this:

1. Light weight. It weighs less than 4 quarters. 4 QUARTERS!!
2. Small form factor. About the size of a pack of gum. I've never seen a phone this small.
3. Sleek, stylish looks. All cell phones look like crap compared to a Shuffle/iPod
4. Full integration with iTunes/OS X. This one is the biggie. What good is "TEH TERMINATOR" of cell phones if you can't easily manage music on it?

And all this for $99US.

Plus, the majority of people who buy a Shuffle or iPod already have a cell phone, and those that don't probably aren't old/independent enough to afford one anyway. They don't need no darn stinkin' monthly bill just to play their music on a device they paid for!! And before you say "well, the phone features would be disabled so a person could use it as an mp3 player without paying for a provider," people will just choose the iPod instead.

To sum up:
99% of people who bought an iPod actually use it. They aren't looking for and wouldn't want an ugly awkward all-in-one device. And with the new photo capability and rumors of video playback, the iPod is soon becoming a more featured device. And the most important thing to remember is that Apple has added features and usability alongside a decrease in size and increase in looks.

I agree with the oogabooga man (or woman) completely. I think my ipod mini will outlast my cell phone by a few years, so why would I pay more for a phone that gets replaced more often than my music player? I still have my discman from when I was in 8th grade (counting . . .) that was 8 years ago. When my cell phone lasts that long I will consider getting one with extra features. In the meantime how about phones that don't suck.

Welcome <AOL Voice>

Where are you from?
I'm from Earth <spoken too loud as if the person was deaf and spoke a different language, as if that would help>

May I have a bite of your sandwich?
Hey is that the new W800 (W.alkman Phone?) How. Does. It. Work?

Can I play my iTunes songs on it?
Does it take pictures too?
Can I hook it up to my Television and show the pictures and play my music at the same time?
Will there be a docking station for it?
Are Car Manufacturers making interfaces for it so it will be controllable through my car stereo?
Will there be an adapter so I can use it like an audio recorder?
Will there be an adapter so I can send my music wirelessly through to my stereo?
Will there be an adapter so I can controll it wirelessly?
If so, will there be roaming charges?

If you have said no to at least 3 of these, then your iPod killer died before it had the chance to be born...

That is all. (M.A.S.H. announcer)
