hi there,

until now i could not be persuaded by all the media hype to buy an ipod,
mainly because apple forbids recording on the device.

since i am a musician and i very often have to record rehearsals the recording feature is
mandatory for me on an ipod ...

alas i checked out ipodlinux.org and it enables pristine 16 recording and has (or will have) some other cool software for musicians (metronome, tuner, etc.)
- i know the actual ipods are not yet supported fully by ipodlinux, but i heard they definately will be.

now my questions:

since i want to save precious space on my powerbooks hd i'd like to keep my entire most used music collection (right now 15 GB) just on the ipod and not also on the PB hd.
can i still access that collection on the ipod with itunes (or other sw) and burn playlists, like i can with itunes, or do i have to have the collection on both systems ?

also since apple offers only 20 and 60 gb ipods i am somehow torn: the 60 gb version would be very future savvy in terms of space but it comes with a hefty price tag compared to the 20 gb model. would it be possible (reasonable) to just buy the 20 gb model and upgrade the hd when i need it or would this be much more expensive.

also: is there any reason to wait for new ipods (cheaper, bigger, etc ) in the near future ?

thanks for any help

cheers

You can record audio notes but the quality is limited to WAV and a very low bitrate. Fine for lectures and interviewss.
