I bought a Belkin Tunecast II, but it suddenly doesn't work when powered by the car adapter (it worked yesterday), the screen flickers for no apparent reason (although that doesn't really matter), and I've read many reviews that the Macally PodFM is much better. Does anyone have any experience with this? How about the iRiver transmitter? Both got very good reviews on Amazon, as opposed to Belkin's mediocre reviews. I might want to just go with a tape adapter, but I'm worried about damage to my tape deck, and I just hate the concept of letting the cassette spin so long (not that people didn't used to listen to tapes...). If anyone has any good experiences with a tape adapter, please recommend a good one. I just can't decide what I want, but I know I want something. My only criteria is that it connect to the iPod via a standard 3.5mm cable, as I need to connect it through my iPod remote (for convenience purposes).

I had a Belkin TuneCast II. The Tunecast will turn on when it detects a loud-enough audio signal. Oftentimes, I've had to raise the iPod volume up to max to wake up the Tunecast and then drop it down to medium volume to prevent distortion.

FM transmission is fair. I've gotten better results with the OWC RoadTrip! Transmitter + Charger. It only tunes in to 87.9 but it is a much stronger transmitter. The iPod is connected via the Dock Connector which charges it as well as gets audio from it as a better signal because it is a true line-out signal.

The regular RoadTrip! transmitter only has a headphone jack and doesn't charge the iPod but it is compatible with more devices because it connects to any headphone port.

I get better sounds from the RoadTrip! transmitter + charger. I also only have to connect to the dock connector.

When I had the Belkin TuneCast II, I had to connect the headphone jack and sometimes I'm too lazy to connect the charger dock connector.

I've also mounted my iPod on my dashboard with a universal PDA mount so I can control it.

Another purchase I made recently was to get the AirClick remote for my iPod. I strap it on to my steering wheel for easy access.

I've got a tape adapter and have been leaving it on all the time for over 5 years now with no problems to my cassette deck. (First used with a mini disk player then my iPod) In fact the adapter itself came with a cd player I got about 10 years ago and it still works perfectly fine. I'd say just get any cheap $10-15 adapter as I'd assume they'd work just as well as a 10 year old one.

For tape adapters, have a look at the Sony CPA-9 (as recommended by ilounge.com). I had a Hama one before and the quality was ok, but the sony one is a whole new dimension of volume and clarity. I'm fully satisfied!
