The free ipod mini you get when you buy an ibook, is it an instant rebate, do you need to put up the money for the ipod, then they give it right back, does the rebate take a few weeks, or what? someone please explain, a good friend of mine is about to make a purchase of an ibook

People who don't read the fine print are asking to be screwed up the ass

TO RECEIVE A REBATE, YOU MUST: (1) Submit a completed original request coupon. Request coupons may not be altered. Each coupon submission is limited to one redemption claim. Duplicate or incomplete coupons will not be honored. (2) Submit proof of purchase consisting of itemized, dated sales receipt(s) showing ALL Apple products purchased, the reseller’s name and address, the serial numbers of the qualifying products, and the prices paid for the qualifying products. NOTE: Order acknowledgments, packing slips, and purchase order copies do not qualify. (3) Provide the UPC/bar code labels cut from all qualifying product boxes; both CPU and iPod. The UPC/bar code labels must be cut from the product packaging so that the cardboard backing is completely removed from the packaging. The UPC/bar code labels must include part numbers with bar codes, serial numbers with bar codes, and product descriptions. (4) Mail the envelope enclosing your completed original coupon, proof of purchase, and UPC/bar code labels. The envelope must be postmarked within 45 days of your purchase date. Late submissions are not valid. • Lost, late, or misdirected mail is not the responsibility of Apple or its agents. • Allow eight (8) weeks from the date your claim is processed to receive your rebate. • Checks must be mailed to an address within the United States or District of Columbia. • This o∂er is void where prohibited or restricted by law. • Apple education promotional bundle pricing, education institution pricing, and other education promotional o∂ers supersede this o∂er and cannot be combined. • This o∂er is not valid in conjunction with any other Apple promotion unless specified in terms and conditions of subsequent o∂ers. This o∂er is valid with Apple-sponsored printer discounts and .Mac promotional discounts. This o∂er is also valid with Apple-sponsored promotions of software. • Apple is not responsible for printing errors. • You should keep copies of these Terms and Conditions, your completed coupon, your proof of purchase, and the UPC/bar code labels for your records. • Submissions will not be returned and become the property of Apple. • Apple reserves the right to change without notice the Terms and Conditions, or end the o∂er at any time, modify the o∂er, or end the o∂er early by publishing revised terms and conditions without notice. • For more information or to learn the status of your rebate request, please call 888-832-0965 or go to www.apple.com/promo/inquiry.

So if you get an educational discount through your school you ARE NOT eligible for the rebate?

No, you're definately eglible for the rebate. What makes you ineligible is an Instituional purchase, which is how departments on campus's order stuff. An education discount through a school is a Personal purchase which definately qualifies.
