My 2nd Generation iPod took a fall down off my bed. Now all it does it shows a folder on the screen with a !. Actually, I can still read and write files to it, not play any music? Anyone have any idea what I can do to fix the iPod? Thanxs.

run the iPod updater that should fix the problem if you are still able to read and write files to it.

I ran the update, I also formated it under disk ulitity and still shows the folder with the ! mark. I can mount the iPod on the desktop, open it, and save files to it. Still no joy.

Use the iPod Software Updater to Restore (reformat) the iPod. If you do that and it still does not work, it's not going to be easy to fix.

I am afraid after several attempts, the iPod is not longer able to play music. Now I have a 10G external HD LOL.

Hi powermacj7,

Take a look here to see if any of these remedies helps.

Thanxs, I have tried those solutions on several occasions. It just does not work. I can put the iPod in disk mode. I have reinstalled the software. In the end the result is the same. Sadly, I am afraid my iPod is toast.

If the hard drive works, then it should be fine. Take it to an Apple store and have *them* restore it.
