I was just checking on the Internet for tips to raise battery life. Well I read many of them and use all of them... defragmenting the HDD, using Lock all the time, lowering your browsing, only use 90% of the capacity.

I maybe found a trick, but I would just want your input on it. What about raising the sound volume of all the songs to 200% in iTunes. Then you upload the songs to the iPod and you'll need less volume on the iPod to use it.

However, my knowledged of electronics is just very limited. Maybe I'm just making a fool of myself, but it would be nice to learn more about it.

Also, do you guys have other creative tricks up your sleeves?

I always thought that you shouldn't defragment the iPod's HHD?

I never turn my volume up more than halfways anyway. For two reasons - to save battery life, and save my hearing.

I haven't tried your trick, but it seems like a good idea. Wonder what everyone else things about it.

Raising the encoded volume on a compressed sound file will DECREASE the dynamic range of the song; it will sound muddy and flat. All that changing the encoded volume level does is expand or compress the range of the data in that file, so you'll lose fidelity-and the songs will sound BAD-if you mess with the encoding too much. And it still takes the same amount of energy to pump out the sound level you want, regardless of the volume setting.

High quality earphones that block external noise are a better bet for saving battery life through lower volume than messing with the songs themselves.
