I don't get it i was listening to it paused it and then when i came back it was completely dead. Holding down select and play for 6 seconds doesn't work. Plugging it in to my powerbook doesn't work. I can't even see it in disk utility. I plug it into the powerbrick and nothing.

Someone please help.

This is totally unrelated but I'll tell you so you can get an idea of how my luck has been. Lastnight my truck was broken into and my phone and some other crap was stolen. and i just read the ipods limited warranty and my warranty just ran out probably like a week or two ago. It's been kind of a crappy day.

Can you force it into disc mode?

Select + Menu > Apple > Switch to Back + Forward 8-10 seconds. Now test it.

Keep trying to charge it. Maybe try resetting it a couple times, too.

It sounds like it is just a dead battery, but who knows?

Try holding down select+menu--it's a more hard reset for the iPod which I found out about from Apple support. You may also try switching the 'hold' switch back and forth 3-5 times and connecting to a power outlet beforehand if it doesn't work straight away.
