hi, i used to import my musics via apple loseless encoder from CD to my i tune , but can i export to i pod via different encoder, says, MP3, or AAC , so the size of the file is smaller? while on the other hand , i can keep a copy for backup in cases i lose the CDs,.

I think this is an option for the shuffle, but I'm not sure about the rest of the lineup.

It all depends on how you encode the songs off the CD to begin with. If you rip them originally with the lossless codec, you'll have larger files to move to the iPod, whereas if you rip them with a higher compression codec like MP3 or AAC, the files will be smaller. You can also get iTunes to reencode songs you already have (without losing the original file)-look at iTunes' help for "Saving a copy of a song in a new file format" for instructions.
