Hello!
Thanks for any help.
I have a new 20GB ipod. Works great. Can get all itunes music on there...can transfer music from CDs on there no problem.
I have a lot of other audio files on computer that did not come from itunes or Cds.
The only way I can get them into the itunes software is to place them on my desktop and then drag them into itunes. I update the ipod and they are now on the ipod...no problem.
Trouble is once they are removed from the desktop the next time the ipod updates they are gone from the ipod.
Any ideas?
Thanks so much.
Leo

Make sure the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" checkbox in the Advanced pane of the iTunes preferences is checked, then add the files to iTunes again (by dragging). Then iTunes will keep a copy of the files in its own folder, and you can safely delete the original.
It is not possible to keep music on your iPod that's not on your computer. This is supposed to help prevent the stealing of music, and, like all such measures, can be a bit of a hassle.

Actually it is possible to keep music on your iPod that's not on your computer. I have music on my G5 at work that I don't have on my G4 at home. I connected my mini to my work mac, loaded up the songs I wanted, and then did the same at home. The iPod just needs to be set to disc access, not on autosync (at least I think that's what it's called).

New to this forum.
Hi, newbie to the IPod genre and need some help. After reading many posts, I am a bit confused. Is it possible to copy CDs that I currently own to my Ipod? If I copy them to WMP then onto the Ipod?
Thanks!

You wouldn't normally be using WMP. You'd insert the CD's, import them into iTunes, then plug in your iPod and copy your music onto it.

iTunes does a very good job of encoding CD audio into MP3, and in doing so incorporating the MP3 into the iTunes library, where it can easily be added to your iPod. It's just that iTunes doesn't blare "CLICK HERE TO RIP YOUR CDS" at you like other players do.
