I have a 3rd generation 15G iPod, the screen is blank. I can sync OK with iTunes, the backlight comes on, everything appears normal other than the LCD screen is void of any data. I tried restore process with no luck. Any ideas?

how old is the iPod? I would look at http://www.ipodresq.com and see what their price is to fix it...since it is most likely over a year old and out of Apple's warranty.

You could just have the contrast set so low that you can't see any thing... just use a friends iPod, so you can see the menu layout, and increase the contrast. (If that is the problem).

Finding the contrast setting will be difficult if he can't see the screen.

that why you'd use you friends iPod.... hit menu at least like 15 times so that both iPods are at the very begining of the menu lay-out and then go through the one you can seeto contrast and follow the same steps on the iPod you can't see, therefore your friends iPod will be you "eyes".

Even the lowest contrast setting will be visable. It could be the plug that plugs the LCD into the "motherboard" came out somehow. Have you dropped it? You could open it up and see. If it is you'd save a lot of money.

It sounds as though the LCD is either not getting power or it's not plugged in. Usual injuries to the screen are visable, and these kind of LCD screens rarely "just go".

Thanks for the reply. I did change the battery a few months ago, it's possible that it came unplugg. Is the plug for the LCD near the Hard-drive plug? When I changed the battery I had to remove the hard drive.

Thanks

According to http://www.chipmunk.nl/iPod/ , no. It's on the opposite side. Still something to check out. You seem fairly confident enough to change your own battery, so opening it up to check the LCD shouldn't be too much of a problem.

On the attached picture, the LCD corner is the only thing visable, with the plug at the top right of the picture.

Well I finally broke down and sent my iPod out for repair! Sent it to MacResQ.com , they did a great job!! Sent it out on Monday and had it back by Friday the same week. Found a bad ribbon cable and replaced it for only the shipping and handling cost, $30.. Provided a break down of the repairs and a 90 day warranty, they also replaced the battery I provided.
Needless to say, I am very pleased with there servce and prompt responce, I would recommend them if you have the need.

Thanks again for your help.

Took your advise, finally sent my iPod to MacResQ.com, (same as ipodresq.com). They did a great job! Sent it out on Monday, had it back on Friday. They found a bad ribbon cable, replaced it and replaced the battery I provided all for the $30. shipping and handling. I am very pleased with the prompt service and detailed break-down of the repairs.
Thanks for the recommendation

Very good. Sounds like they are a very honest company! Glad your iPod is back to normal.
