Does anyone know if the nano will work with a Dock connector cable that has FireWire on the other end? On the tech specs page of the iPod nano at http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html it specifically says the nano charges over USB 2 and omits FireWire, but shouldn't the old FireWire dock connector cable convert that? I'd love a new nano but I have an older Mac with FireWire and USB 1.1.

That seems to be the question of the hour. I guess we'll have to wait till they start shipping to see. I'm sure that there are more than a few of us that will be trying the day the units arrive. I know I will, and I'll be sure to let you know the results.

Seems that it CHARGES over firewire but no syncs.

Thanks. I think it would be a huge oversight to not include this functionality, but I also feel it would be a huge oversight to not mention this capability somewhere buried in the tech specs if it does work.

What worries me is that the FireWire cable is still available for sale for use with the regular iPods, but is not listed as an "Options and Accessories" accessory for the nano.

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL....1.1.1.0.1.0.1 shows the FireWire cable's compatibility with the iPod and the mini, but not the nano. But that could just be outdated information.

Also of note, on the Tech Specs page at http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html it clearly states "Technical Specifications: iPod nano" above the bottom-most section, where it reads: "Charging via USB or FireWire to computer system or power adapter". Now this may also be an oversight as it may have been copied and left in there from the full size iPod tech specs.

it seems the chip in the Nano doesn't handle Firewire. Cost or space reasons, who knows.

Correct, if you attempt to sync with a Firewire cable a message appears on the screen saying that it is incompatible.

I hope this isn't yet another case of the "new" Apple PC company sacrificing quality for a small profit edge.

I don't know why someone who wants to know this stuff just doesn't ask one of the people who already has one here to test it.
