There were a couple of web sites who showed an iPod nano disassembled. They found that the 2GB nano had the flash memory soldered on while the 4GB nano appeared to be on a daughtercard.

Any hackers out there have tried slipping on another nanoflash?

It's probably too much to ask since the nano has very little space wasted on it and it is cram-packed. But then again, some adventurous soul might be able to hack it. I figured "if they could put linux on an iPod, why not see if it can handle a higher capacity flash?"

Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait for the 8GB iPod nano to come out in a couple years.

The price of bulk 4GB flash memory chips is around $150.00 right now. Apple of course worked out a volume discount with Samsung on their flash memory for the iPod Nano, so they are paying around $75, IIRC. Even so, I would imagine that higher capacity flash memory chips would not only be very much more expensive, but also very likely they would be incompatible with Nano hardware. I haven't seen any pictures detailing the so-called daughter card containing the flash chip, everything I have seen has the chips soldered. I would personally be interested if you could forward that resource to me that shows the daughter card hardware.

Personally, I really suggest waiting on this one, seeing as the Nano was only just released about a week ago.

If you want more memory, you should wait. I bet it'll be a bit cheaper after the holiday season. Or if you don't want to wait, you could still get a nice iPod mini. They are a lot cheaper now
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Here's the web site of the nano autopsy:

I guess the flash is soldered on to a daughterboard.

My nano just shipped this morning. So I guess I'll have to be content until the 8GB model arrives.
