cant get my ipod photo 20 to come off of hold mode. the switch has been flipped and the ipod has been reset. ive had it for barely a week and its never been dropped. tho only thing ive done was bought a new case (that couldd be the problem) when i remove the ipod from the case the problem persists however. how can i get the ipod off of the hold mode?

Hmm, I've never heard of that. Try connecting it to your Mac to put it into disk mode and then disconnect it, or try a reset.

i reset it and everything. i removed the ipod from the case and discovered that if i pushed a spot on the top, it would disengage the hold switch when its in the off position. i tried putting it back in the case and it went back to being totally unresponsive. that proves to me that the case is the problem. in a sense i resolved the unresponsive issue only to discover a new problem. the headphone output port doesnt work anymore. if i jiggle the plug in the jack i hear the song fade in on my left ear but that's it. i am convinced that this case has destroyed my ipod, its never been dropped, ive had it almost a week (bought it from the computer store of my uni as well as the case). ive never even fully expended the battery or as much as bumped into someone while listening to it. this whole situation is unbelievabe. This is the product i believe

it looks cool on the surface, but never ever buy it. it destroyed my ipod

Take the iPod back to where you bought it and exchange for a new one. I can't see a case causing this to happen, but you might want to try a different type of case just to be sure.

basically the case is a very very tight fit, it says that its for fourth generation ipods (20 gig ipod photo). i read some of the user reviews of the case on amazon and one dude mentioned that it left scratches on his screen when he removed it. i get the impression that this case is poorly designed and exerts an undue amout of pressure on the device. im very interested in how this accesory messed up my ipod; it may expose a design flaw in the device as a whole or maybe just in my particular unit.

It sounds like a flaw in the iPod itself. Return and demand a replacement.

iPods are very solidly built devices, and I have a hard time believing that any case could exert enough pressure to damage it in the way you describe. Since the iPod is brand new, my theory is that it was defective from the beginning, and it was actually the tight fitting case the caused you to notice this fact as soon as you did.
