my ipod no longer syncs or mounts in itunes. i can see it in disk utility but not in itunes, even in the prefs it says "no ipod connected"

quite the problem but only started once i started downloading podcasts - which is why i want to update my ipod.

any fix or suggestions?

that worked ... i was unsure if that would work but it was a snap.

now i have a 2nd question ... i bought my girlfriend an ipod and would like to put some music on it for her to enjoy immediately after opening it. will it work with my computer and with hers or does apple not allow this?

(i don't consider this stealing bc i could simply borrow her the cd's and she could put them on her computer or do what she likes with them so please no replys about theft, blah blah)
