awhile back i posted how my ipod would not eject/recognize etc. i restored it back to version one and the up to the latest version (after wiping it) and all seemed fine.
now the present...
similar to last time it failed to recognise itself BUT this time after restoring it seems: trapped in disc mode, keeps on coming up with a folder and exclamation mark and a box appears asking me to format/ignore/eject...
its a30g photo.
any ideas please...it is driving me silently crazy...

If you have DiskWarrior, try that.
If not, consider taking it in for repairs/replacement.

Your iPod has a disc drive. Diskwarrior might be able to do the same things it would to your Mac's hard drive. Failing that, I'd take it in for repair/replacement (if under warranty).

Randman, do you have any evidence that disk warrior is good for the drive? I have heard that it is actually bad for the drive (only to the point where you would need to restore it). It's true that there is a normal disk drive inside the iPod, but there is a lot of smarts before you get to the drive.

ah, interesting.
as i have a now discontinued 30g, what are the odds (if replaced) of me getting a 20g or 60g?
would they be so nasty as to deprive me of 10g of musical goodness?
this does mean i'll have to begin scratching up my ipod all over again...

Where have you heard negatives?
My main iPod is a 60GB and I use it quite a bit as an external hard drive and I've run DW on it a handful of times (usually when it says more than 65% is out of whack). No problems and it tends to lock up considerably less than without it.
Then again, it's more of a maintenance/repair thing than a regular occurrence. As far as negatives, I didn't find anything that stood out concerning DW and iPods when I was doing some research on it for publication.
