Yah, and this is like... a really deadly folder of death... Disk Utility will crash if I try and open it while the iPod is connected. The Finder can't see it, and the iPod most recent iPod updater asks for my password when I press restore, and just sits there using no CPU and not letting me drag the window or anything. It's just stalled.

The only thing I can think of it that perhaps something might be able to be done via the terminal... other than that I have no idea.

That said what happened was, I reformatted my iPod as MS-DOS from HFS because I wanted to be able to mount it on the PC in our Church's office. Well silly me when I went to connect a DV Camcorder to my PowerBook I just yanked the iPod mini's cable. Then I connected the USB 2 cable so that it could finish charging. Well, after that it kept mounting and unmounting in the Finder. After that I tried to use disk utility. After my first trial it stopped mounting. So... I'm not really sure what I should be doing...

OK, update, I googled around a bit, and one of the sites pointed out that if you hold down menu and select which I'd already done a few times it forces the iPod into disk mode. So I did that and noticed hey it showed up in disk utility! Still wouldn't let me reformat it or anything but I figured fine I'll try software restore one more time. And just left it sitting doing it's thing... no idea how long it actually took, but software restore for the record gives the worst indications that it's doing anything! But it fixed the problem and my ipod now works again!
