It is a 20 gig, Photo iPod, 4 Generation. The computer im on is running windows XP, No firewall, aswell as no viruses, all my music is ripped from CD's. 1 gig of ram. 100 gig hd.
I plug my iPod in using the cables that came with it, into my usb port on the side of my computer. It then says it cant update it, cant put the music on the iPod. So i then unmount it, and unplug, and i get the folder with an exclamation mark(!). And then im here.
Would possibly moving the usb port from the side to the back stop this?
Also, is it possible to currupt or delete the firmware from simply unplugging the iPod, or is it something my computer is doing?

First, reinstall iTunes, and do it carefully.
Now reset the iPod (hold the Menu and Select buttons down until the display changes to the Apple). Finally, try using a different-preferably motherboard-mounted-USB port and see what happens.
I think your set up just confused the iPod, and there is nothing really wrong with it.

Try a restore on the iPod after a reset. See if that helps.

I guesse i should have been more specific.
I can not do a restore or update, the update button is un clickable, and it says there's no firmware when i try to restore it.
I have also tried to reset it, (Menu + select), And i still get the Folder + !.

What do you mean by this? Unplug my current USB, open my case, and plug it directly into my Motherboard. Or move it to the beck usb port?

He means a non-hubbed USB port. Hubbed USB ports can be on the keyboard, a printer, or even possibly the front of the computer.
Yes, try the ports on the back of the computer. They are usually directly connected to the motherboard.
