I'm sure this has been answered before but I couldn't find it when I searched for it here goes. My iPod is formated for my Mac, so I can't use it to play songs on any windows computers without reformating. So, I know windows formatted iPods work on OS X as my g/f iPod does. So I was thinking about reformating my iPod for windows, but will I be able to run updates on OS X for my iPod or will I have to do it on a windows PC, and will there be any problems using the windows formated iPod on my Mac, or not?
Thanks in advance

I would assume a PC formatted iPod would require PC updates, but that's only an educated guess. But as far as it working on your Mac, there should not be an issue.

Hmmm just as I thought, shouldn't really be a problem, as I do have a PC and it's not very often that updates come out for the 3G model. Might go ahead and reformat unless someone else has any other info?

You might run into issues with storing files to it. I assume that you wouldn't be able to install OS X to it for emergency booting, etc. I also heard that it makes copying music to the iPod slower, but I tried it with a Windows-formatted iPod and didn't notice a difference.

Problems with file storing because it will be in FAT32 instead of HFS?
I've got 3 other iPods (belonging to brothers) in the house that could be used to boot OS X off, so thats not a problem. I supose I could try it out anyway, as I can always go back to it being formated for OS X, right?

Some files names that work on the Mac might not work on FAT32, yes. Right now I have formatted my old iPod for Windows because I discovered that I can use it as external storage for my Zaurus PDA. I haven't used it for very long, but so far in terms of using it for music, there doesn't seem to be a problem using on the Mac.
