Ok, I know you didn't do this in the name of science, so how did your Nano wind up in the washer?

I don't think it was Eug's iPod...

Still, pretty cool. Water on its own doesn't do much unless you try to use it while it's wet, but i'm surprised that the detergent and stuff didn't do more damage. I guess there's just not much room for stuff to get in there...

The article said it was forgotten in a shirt pocket because it was just so darn small and light. I probably would have waited a little longer before seeing if it worked (the author gives no specific time but from the sound of it it wasn't very long). I can't help but wonder what would have happened to a hard drive based iPod though.

Maybe I should have said "How does one..." instead of "How did you..." Considering how new they are, I'd think that all Nano owners would know exactly where they were all the time.

I would never leave a $200 device in my pocket.

Nor do I. I once left some crappy (3-dollar-store quality) earbuds in my pockets and they went through the washer. not a huge loss, but since then, I've always checked my pockets to make sure nothing was left in them.

I feel the same way about my shuffle... its just so small and in my shirt pocket so often, I really can see myself just forgetting it.
