My 10GB 3G iPod recently died (hard drive failed when I dropped the iPod on a hard floor), and I replaced the hard drive with a 20GB unit (Apple-branded MK2004GAL) off eBay. When I opened up the iPod and took the defective hard drive out, I noticed the model number on the old drive. It says MK1504GAL. Isn't this a 15GB unit? If so, Apple must have used 15GB units in some (or all?) of their 10GB iPods and deliberately formatted the drive to only use 10GB of space. I did purchase this iPod as a refurb directly from Apple...perhaps that has something to do with it.

Anyone else experience this? I just found it rather surprising when I took the drive out and noticed that.

Odd, I doubt Apple put in 15 gig drives. Congrads though on replacing your old drive.
