Ask your record companies (or company that's holding it back).

Its the size of the market, Australia's music purchasing population is too small to for Apple to put up with the effort of arguing with the record companies.

I know its unfair, no iTMS, no TIVO, and the rugby and Cricket going down the pan too.

Just be patient.

Our record companies have been ripping us of for too long, many CD's here are 50% to 100% more than the US, and they wonder why theres piracy!

THe parent companies should just pick up the phone to their regional managers and tell them to push the green button.

It sucks. It really really sucks.

The longer Sony/BMG hold out, the more they'll push people towards LimeWire and BitTorrent.

The amount of intelligence in the Australian record industry in not high. They thought everyone would just keep buying CDs in the stores forever.

Australia is has a larger population than ten of the other countries that Apple serves, and a very enthusiastic appetite for music, so I can't buy the size argument.

Sheer idiocy and greed on the part of record companies is another matter, however...

It's partly the size/effort calculation, but also the legal wranglings. Never underestimate the greed of lawyers and record company execs. Both are bottom feeders in nice suits.

Short answer: no.

Long answer: If you have a credit card issued in the country from whose store you wish to buy and have a billing address in said country, then you can buy from that country's store also. My father lives in Greece half the year and has a Greek credit card and a Greek address. He can buy from the Greek iTMS from the U.S.

Apple uses the credit card and address to verify that you live there.
